Advanced Strategy:
Prerequisite: This stratagem is primarily based on the Hammer and Anvil, with your Toxic Cloud acting as the Anvil. This build requires a lot of movement and quick combinations. Not only is it necessary to be a bit smarter about timing skills properly, knowing where to move is key in this strategy, as on harder difficulties running in front of, say, an archer as opposed to behind them could quickly spell death.
Team Synergy:
Tank Roles: Should let you know they are about to initiate so you can pick your first victim. After that, the tank should play the hammer of the classic Hammer and Anvil stratagem, herding enemies into Toxic Cloud (which is the anvil in this scenario).
Other DPS Roles: Should focus on isolated enemies on the wings. More attention to the middle of the enemy group in the beginning is bad for you. Stray arrows still hit you in Stealth, so they should go outside first, then move inside to clean up.
Control Roles: Should focus on herding and keeping enemies in Toxic Cloud. Pull of the Abyss and Static Cage work great for this.
Support Roles: Should largely ignore you and support the tank.
Note: Even on Perilous, I have noticed that with this particular stratagem, the combat set piece only lasts 8-12 seconds depending on the team and gear, except zone 5, of course.
Any feedback, let me know!
I've been having too much fun with this build to promote http://da-skills.net...010,001a1,B1D,0 but I'll try out toxic cloud next time. I haven't been blown away with it on the alchemist but with more damage on a bow class it might be great. Thanks for the guide

That's a solid build. Gives you that good burst DPS. Depending on how high gear/promotions you have, I'd honestly promote even just to replace Knife in the Shadows with Lost in the Shadows (Stealth upgrade).
Hook and Tackle + Leaping Shot just feel like they were made for each other, though, yeah?
I definitely recommend at least trying Toxic Cloud on the Hunter at least once. I demonstrate it in the video guide... It's loads of fun!
Might just be me, but i love evade when playing hunter.
Think i might try toxic cloud on my next promotion though. With explosive toxin looks like it might be alot of fun.
Any chance of an recommended unlock order? Build looks great
I do suggest in the video unlocking Leaping Shot first. This is because it is both quick to and because it has great utility. I would honestly get Stealth second, Hook and Tackle third, and Toxic Cloud last. Using this particular order, the play style of the Hunter is morphing throughout leveling, making it a bit less tedious.
That's my biggest problem with Toxic Cloud builds on Hunter, it is so out of the way that you really don't get to use it until like level 17-18 unless you're skipping all of your other desired active and passives until very late in your build.

If you really want it, you can go for it first, then Leaping Shot and so on...
Definitely gonna try this at some stage

The main focus here was not to just make "the Archer but with Stealth". I like to make each character more unique, you know?
I'm a big fan of this play style in routine and/or threatening. A lot of fun. In Perilous it will get you killed more often than not until you get your promotions way up there. Like waaaaay up there.
In Perilous, it becomes much more reliant on a team dynamic than Routine or Threatening, which is why I posted the advanced strategy and Team dynamic.
I solo'd Routine to get footage of the abilities in use for the video with my eyes closed. Mind you, I am trying to do things in a specific way to show off abilities, so I kind of hamper myself.
How does this build work with Throwing Blades instead of Toxic Cloud?
I'm currently rebuilding my hunter right now, just got bow of the griffon, even with a slightly off build, me and a keeper run perilous tonight through three waves by ourselves with no problem, wave 4 we got a third and for the fifth wave we picked up a fourth, but we ran it easily, just a matter of working together

This is what I'm going to run, I'm just debating on where to put the very last skill point. Thinking of either taking the upgrade for explosive shot, as its a great knockdown ability, especially against the rare towershield enemy, gaps in the armor, or maybe upgrading fallback plan. Thoughts?
If I didn't have to give up a couple nice passives I'd sure as hell go for hook n tackle.
I kind of spelled out the passives for my build and how they work in the video, but in your case you could upgrade Explosive Shot, I suppose. The casting animation is a bit slow to fire in CQ, so make sure you aren't too close when using it, or just don't get aggro. :-)I'm currently rebuilding my hunter right now, just got bow of the griffon, even with a slightly off build, me and a keeper run perilous tonight through three waves by ourselves with no problem, wave 4 we got a third and for the fifth wave we picked up a fourth, but we ran it easily, just a matter of working together

Lol, with the way I've been playing my hunter, and having a blast doing it, I tend to really ****** things off, so I generally have one or two zealots or something coming my way. I've been using the knives, but if they don't kill then the thing is on me. And all my play so far on hunter and archer has made me quite experienced in using ES to blast something off its feet before it gets too close. As always, thanks for the imput.
I am using right now this build and I have to say,it is quiet refreshing.Only problem is that I don’t have LotG and poison kinda sucks vs Demons.
I have a superb Heal on Kill ring so I'm thinking some form of Grapple(+), Blades(+), Evade (+), Leaping Shot (+). No Longbow of the Griffon though sadly.
I don't get the hook and tackle. Just use stealth to get in close and drop toxin bomb and use explosive shot instead so you get also more passives.

In one build I had throwing blades,’cos I thought they do poison damage(didn’t read tool tip and they are green, lol). They are decent, but while casting them, you are sitting duck,so positioning is crucial.
But in the end,if you have hok ring and decent weapon on threatening any build is viable.

Needs more spike trap.
Excellent build and video. Personally I prefer spike trap over hook and tackle, nice damage but mainly as a novelty.
Hook & Tackle has horrible damage, actually. The only potential benefit is that it can be upgraded to have cooldown or stamina cost. It's main use in my build is mobility.
Nah I like the build, it gave me the idea for the one I'm using now. Also the point of Grapple is for mobility, not damage. I really wish Poison DoT could Sunder or Weaken in this game. It shoud be a primer at least.
I agree. I with poison had some kind of utility effect. I think Weaken would honestly be most logical, as they can't hit as hard if they are being poisoned, right?
